Yvette Chiquillo
Mexico

I'm a design and high couture teacher since 40 years ago. When I discovered Patchwork I dedicated myself to learning techniques in order to make it better.

I've taken classes with Martin Michel, Lynette Anderson, Reiko Kato, among other many great designers.
I've worked in television teaching Patchwork for 3 years.
I'm passionate about teaching all those who are willing to learn. I've taught Patchwork for the past 12 years.

Easter Flower (Drunkard's Path)
Yvette Chiquillo (Mexico)
All levels of experience
$600 (materials included)

You'll learn how to make the drunkard's path in two different ways: the easy way or the millenary traditional way.

This block has passed from generation to generation and is one of the most traditional works.
With this technique you'll learn how to make the Drunkard's Path, where you'll be able to make multiple combinations, from a cushion to a table runner, covers... and anything your imagination allows you to create. All with the idea of creating sumptuous paths from a very simple pattern made up of two pieces, without using any special rulers.

In this class you'll learn to stitch in "Y" and the pleasure to sew by hand to make endless combinations with this historical block by Lucy Boston.
Stitching in "Y" can be intimidating because it needs to be very precise, but I'll show you the secret to achieve it easily.
The kit includes the fabrics to make this block, which you can later turn into a cushion or add to others to make a quilt!
I await you for my class with thimble and needle in hand!

Luz Ramírez
Mexico

Luz Ramírez was born in Mexico City, she's a fashion designer and Quilter. Since she was very young she has been surrounded by sketches, fabrics, needles and thread in what she never imagined would be her path.

She graduated from a fashion design degree and worked for important fashion brands. Motivated by her thirst for knowledge and preparation, she found the path to what is now her passion: the world of Quilting.

She learned the technique and absorbed all the knowledge she could. With her acquired experience she felt the need to give class to those who asked her for help.

In 2009 she decided to share her love for this craft by opening her first school and shop Home Quilt Home, with which she has participated in exhibitions and ran projects for contests. She has taken Quilting technique classes in Portland, Missouri and California, USA, among other places. She collaborated with the first Quilting magazine in Mexico and in various craft TV shows. She has trained to be a judge and has been invited to judge in various Quilt contests. Today she has a know how of more than 10,000 hours.

It has been a long and marvellous way; now a days she still keeps on learning and sharing her knowledge among her students, clients and friends.

Playful fox
Luz Ramírez (Mexico)
All levels of experience
$1,200 (materials included)

In this class we will make a fox that is 11" high. It has a very interesting make, since it consists of different patterns to give shape to the body, plus the extremities and the head are machine sewn on the interior of the body. You'll learn how to confidently put together curved and straight pieces. It's a very nice project to bring together Patchwork with the making of toys. I will have all the necessary materials awaiting you; you'll only need to bring your basic sewing kit. It's a full-day class, we'll have a one-hour lunch break.

Sissi Gutiérrez
Mexico

I studied decorative design.
I worked as a graphic designer for 12 years in the company that is now TV Azteca, where I acquired a lot of experience in creative composition.
In 2003 I started a Patchwork shop-school with my sister in Mexico City.
I have taken Patchwork and Quilting classes in the United States with renown teachers.
I started machine quilting in 2007, and have since then quilted more than 3,000 pieces.
I started my shop "Sissi Quilting & Stitch" in 2010 in Mexico City, where I offer products, classes and services.
What I've always wanted and now I'm able to do with great pleasure is to bring my ideas to fabric in a creative and artistic way.
Now a days I am a quilt designer with more than 26 years of experience in the field. My designs have been recognised, have won awards and have been shown in different parts of the world such as Houston; Chicago; in Beaujolais, France; in Gramado, Brazil; in Álamo Gordo, NM; in Suzdal, Russia; and in Melbourne Australia.

Betsy Segura
United States

Betsy Segura is a professional musician, currently playing the main French horn at the UNAM Symphonic Orchestra. She's made her own clothes since she was nine years of age, but her passion for quilting began when she went to the New England Quilt Museum with her mom in 2001: there was an exhibition about endangered animals. After that, she attended Jiny Beyer's classes for many years, and more recently she has attended class at the Vermont Quilt Festival. She has been a French horn teacher for many years and now wishes to share what she has learned over many years of experience with quilting.

Freezer-Paper Piecing, you'll be amazed! (continued)
Betsy Segura (United States)
Intermediate and Advanced
$2,400 (materials included)

Before you look at the photos and say: "not flowers again!", remember that this class is about a technique: we'll learn how to put together fabric scraps in a very precise, fun and addictive way!
The seminar takes place on two full days: Thursday and Friday and it will be in Spanish (the teacher speaks English too).
Using the four techniques that you'll learn, you'll be able to make your own patter with whatever you want: landscapes, photos, animals, flowers, abstract themes, etc.
We'll make 4 different samples in which we'll practice sewing curves, straight lines and dangerous curves! It includes sewing machine techniques and hand-sewing techniques.
The key for these techniques is the freezer paper!
I'll bring examples to class of the quilts I've made using these techniques, including their patterns, in order to make it easy for you to see where we're going. You'll see that both big and small fabric pieces are put together easily.
Don't worry about getting the freezer paper, there will be lots of it available so that, if you enjoy the techniques, you can always have some at home.
